And We're Off!

Rochdale Online were the first to break the news and the proposed Chill Out has been gaining momentum ever since.

At the moment a date for the Chill-Out has not been set - we're still hoping that Rochdale Council will see sense and open dialogue with those who have serious concerns regarding the cuts and new homeless strategy.

  1. The sickening thing is that the cuts are imposed by the Labour Group. I know Chill-Out is apolitical but to me as a Labour Party member it stinks.

    I support Chill-Out 100%

  2. I support Chill-Out 100%

The cuts to emergency bed provision and the absurd new policy is a joke!

How many homeless people have change for the phone & are in a position to telephone Rochdale Council in an emergency & wait for a call back? What if they are deaf? Mute? Have learning difficulties?

    The new policy is absurd.

  3. A great idea - but a little concerned by the ANONYMITY of those involved! What have you got to hide? Why not stand up and be counted?

  4. Some of those on my email list choose to remain on BCC line for a variety of reasons; some because of the position they hold. Seems reasonable to me that people can choose to do this if they wish Robin. I'm 'out and proud' but I have no conflicting interests so have sod all to lose.

We will respect the confidence of all those who wish it.

  6. So am I Robin. I am hinch and Blue Shed Blogger. Not intentional. I just keep pressing the wrong button when I register.

HAVE ORGANISED A CHILL-OUT MEETING FOR 7pm NEXT TUESDAY, MAY 1st
St JOSEPH'S PRESBYTRY, HEYWOOD, GTR MANCHESTER OL10 1EG

Clear spaces in your diaries if you are interested in attending. I realise that there is an election campaign ongoing but this may be to our advantage albeit a little difficult to get candidates to attend.

Why not put your local candidates on the spot when they come knocking on your doors and ask them about their plans re the homeless?

  7. Important update:

Following discussions with the Town Hall, I am given to understand that there is no objection in principle to the proposed Chill-Out sleep-out at the Town Hall providing that we do not cause an obstruction. Discussions are ongoing.

Will give more information at next Tuesday's meeting.

Thanks to all for support and for furious activity going on under the surface.

Full credit to Miladysa and others for hard work and great organisational skills.

  9. The Chill-Out campaign in a nutshell: Basically, the relationship between Rochdale Labour Group and the homeless is like that between a dog and a lamp-post. Errr... that's it!
